Eating Healthy During Holidays

Before The Party

Eat light during the day, so that you can enjoy your special function (without the guilt). A healthy snack right before the party might help take away the temptation to over indulge.

Buffets

Discourage unlimited portions—you may be tempted to pile it on. Keep portions small. Just a taste is all that is needed to satisfy a craving or your curiosity. Be selective with your choices. Try to mingle away from the table.

Healthier Choices

Vegetable and fruit trays (watch the dips), wheat crackers and breads and lean meats are always a good option. Be careful with fried foods, high fat luncheon meats and cheeses!

Dips

Caution when spooning the dips on your plate! Most are made with sour cream, cream cheese, mayonnaise, and cheeses and are loaded with fat and calories.

Tamales

This holiday treat is made with lard and most have 7 grams of fat each!

Alcohol

Enjoy, but remember they add empty calories. It may also weaken your willpower. Sugary mixes, regular eggnog, punch-type beverages are high in calories—instead choose wine, light beer, cocktails made with club soda, mineral water, or diet sodas.
