It can be daunting to constantly look at how far you have walked or pedaled. Having the distraction of a TV program is a great way to take your mind off those ticking numbers. At Spectrum, we offer a number of cardio tools with flat screen TVs, including:

No matter what your workout preference is, you can further enjoy the exercise by watching a show. Simply choose your machine, select a channel and start sweating.

TV Workout Ideas

Want to kick your treadmill or elliptical workout up a notch? While many of our machines come with settings for interval training or hill work, some people enjoy coordinating their workouts to the shows they watch on the TV. For example, you could do an interval workout that includes:

  • Walking or slowly jogging during the program
  • Running or sprinting during the commercials

Interval training has been proven to benefit participants through both toning and improving endurance. Additionally, it helps to break up the exercise, essentially “tricking” your body into new patterns by being unpredictable.

Stay on Schedule

Some people find they have trouble getting motivated to get to the gym. Why not use your favorite program as a push? Your elliptical or treadmill time will become part of your routine if you incorporate a show you already watch regularly. Every day, make sure you are at the gym and on the machine in time for your show. Even if some days you decide to simply walk at a comfortable pace, you are burning calories you may not otherwise.

Do It Safely

While catching a show is a great way to make your workout feel shorter, we want to be sure our members are safe. A recent study released in The New York Times reported that watching TV is safe for both beginners and more experienced runners. Researchers went on to say that watching a comedy instead of a drama helps an individual keep focus and stay on pace with the workout.
